Frase Farms representative Kerry Froese Spoke During Audience Participation:

"Good afternoon commissioners, my name is Carrie Froese and I reside near La Junta. Thank you for the opportunity to provide public comment today. My family and I produce alfalfa hay, and have a cow/calf operation. I am providing comment today in support of a resolution to adamantly oppose Colorado ballot initiative number 16 laws concerning cruelty to animals, also known as pause, which stands for protect animals from unnecessary suffering and exploitation, is going through the process to be on the Colorado general election ballot in November of 2022.

Livestock producers in Colorado are essential to both local and state economy. Colorado livestock producers are part of a $3.4 billion industry in our state, with 66% of the agricultural cash receipts attributed to livestock. As of 2018 Otero County ranks in the top 10 counties in Colorado for cattle production. Ballot initiative number 16 broadly covers many issues from banning spaying and neutering animals to banning slaughter of animals that have lived less than 25% of their natural lifespan to criminalizing excessive animal husbandry practices.

If you own an animal, or are a veterinarian, then this ballot initiative will affect you, to state that this ballot initiative would be devastating is an understatement, as agriculture is the driving force of our economy and Otero County. It will put cattle producers like myself out of business. Thank you for drafting this resolution to oppose ballot initiative number 16 And I hope you will vote yes to stand with the agricultural industry. I greatly appreciate your time. Thank you."
