LA JUNTA — Otero Junior College Athletic Director, Chris Carrillo, has announced that Head Women’s Basketball Coach Landon Steele will not be returning to lead the Rattlers in the upcoming 2021-2022 season. Steele has accepted the head coaching position at Dodge City Community College (DCCC). His assistant coach, Audra Lynn, will be moving with him.

"Coach Steele is an amazing coach, mentor and person. He’s lead a great program here at OJC. The next coach in will have some big shoes to fill," said Chris Carrillo, OJC athletic director. "He will be missed by the whole campus, but especially his team.”

Steele has had an exceptional run during the last two years at Otero. This year, the Women’s team won the Region IX tournament and went to the National Championships where they only lost to the eventual champions. Steele was also named North Plains District Coach of the Year.

“We are very excited for Coach Steele and his career. We will always be grateful to him for all his accomplishments with our basketball program and our institution as a whole. Dodge City will be lucky to have a class act like Landon, we are looking forward to following his future successes,” said Carrillo.
