Rocky Ford School District is Awarded $40 Million BEST Grant for New PK-8 Addition and High School Renovation

ROCKY FORD – The Rocky Ford School District is pleased to announce that the grant application to Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) was successful! The proposed project to build a new PK-8 addition and to renovate the high school was selected as the second-highest project priority-wise for the state of Colorado.
Here are some quick facts about the BEST grant for Rocky Ford School District:
• The total amount awarded by the state is $39,867,054.16
• The required match from Rocky Ford is $7,628,804.00
• The project includes the following improvements/details:
o A new PK-8 addition to the high school.
o A new library and auxiliary gym.
o Renovations to the high school kitchen making it bigger and more up-to-date.
o Renovations to the high school cafeteria making it bigger and more conducive to student, staff, and community meetings.
o The construction of secure vestibules to make the entrances to the high school safer.
o Other safety and security upgrades to the high school including alarm and locking systems.
o The demolition of Washington Primary School, Jefferson Intermediate School, and the surrounding buildings. This will prevent the community problems that result from vacant buildings and the land will be seeded to create a large grass field available for a variety of uses for the school district and the community.
More information will be released soon and in-person community meetings will begin in July. This is a great opportunity to ensure high quality education services and access to safe and secure facilities for Rocky Ford students for many years to come.
