Celebrate Recovery Interview with John Jaramillo

SECO News: Yeah, this is Adrian Hart, and I'm here with John Jaramillo, with The Victorious Church located just off of Highway 50 on, just outside of Swink.

Jaramillo: Yup, just west of Swink there.

SECO News: All right, very good John. I guess if you want to kind of tell us a little bit about what you guys are doing out here.

Jaramillo: We just started with a new ministry called, well, the ministry is new to the area but it's not new, it's been ongoing since 1991. It was invented by  John Baker of Saddleback Ministries, for his Pastor Rick Warren, but it's called Celebrate Recovery.

SECO News: Alright so you guys aren't the typical church.

Jaramillo: Right, We are The Victorious Church. We celebrate victories  every day in this church, nd due to that, because of that, we wanted to start something that would help our community. Drugs and depression and anxiety and all things that are not of God, run rampant in this area, and I'm sure anybody would agree with that. I think it's pretty safe to say that our values are not the same values as it was when I was growing up here.

SECO News: Yeah, decades ago it was definitely a different place.

Jaramillo: Right. So we wanted to bring something that's more pure, that would help people to overcome their addictions, whatever that may be. Now this isn't just your normal A.A. or N.A. program this is a Christ centered 12 STEP program that focuses on every hurt, habit or hang up.

SECO News: Okay, we're talking about facing the local opiate issue and all the other drug related issues we've got going on.

Jaramillo: Yes, as well as porn addiction, food addiction, whether you eat too much or too little, anger issues, depression, suffering from loss of a loved one, or just suffering from loss period. That's causing you know depression or something within you, I like to say that we focus on everything that's keeping you from your greatness.

Each and every one of us was made for greatness. God planned out for each and every one of our lives. That path was already cleared at the cross 2,000 years ago but we bring so much stuff with with us to walk that path that it weighs us down.

SECO News: Yeah.

Jaramillo: We want to be the reason those chains are broken. Man, coming here on a Friday night at 6pm after a lesson and you could almost hear the chains break off. I mean their depression and anxiety and just alcoholism and, and they really, they really feel it, letting go of those burdens, right, and that's that's something that we need in the valley.

It is and we were never taught it right, you know, and how you going to do something that you're never taught. You know what I mean.

SECO News: It comes back to the relationship with God.

Jarmillo: Absolutely, absolutely. So these 12 steps they aren't invented to keep you sober to keep you happy, they're invented to lead you to God and then God can keep you sober to keep you happy, that's what that's the sole purpose of this entire program.

But yeah man, it is just a wonderful thing. People get saved, people turn away from their sin, from their old life, they realize, hey man, this isn't all that's out there, this isn't for me. This is something that's of evil, and not of good. So they quit. And they go on and they live, they live a great life and honestly, this isn't just for the people that sit in the pews and pray at the churches.

SECO News: Right.

Jaramillo: 70% of the people that come here, don't even step in the church on Sunday mornings, or Wednesday evenings. These are real hurt people from from the area, your neighbor right your relatives, anybody. Yeah, anybody that's got to hurts, habits or hang ups. If you don't have one if you're spreading the street saying you don't have one, then you're lying and you need to come in for that.

SECO News: How about the when and the where?

Jaramillo: Okay, so every Friday night 6pm at The Victorious Church every Friday night at 6pm at The Victorious Church just west of Swink, you'll see us.

When you get in here, things to expect are: expect to be empowered and expect to be encouraged and expect to be loved. Our job is to love on you until you can love on yourself, and then when you start loving on yourself, then you can start loving on others.

SECO News: Very good.

Jaramillo: So that's what we're here for.

SECO News: Well thank you for doing it, and thank you for being here for it.

Jaramillo: Thank you.
