Otero County Chip & Seal Project

Interview with Otero County Public Works Director Lex Nichols:

This is Adrian Hart with your Southeast Colorado News on seconews.org

With me is Otero County Public Works Director Lex Nichols and they've got a project going on in Swink, do you want to tell us a little about it Lex?

Nichols: Yup, we're doing chip and seal here for the Town of Swink. We're doing 3,000 gallons this year, so we should be able to get maybe five blocks. Focused on the ones that need it most, so we'll see how far the oil goes. The streets are a lot wider than our county roads. We'll get what we can out of 3,000 gallons.

SECO News: Alright, very good. So watch for the chip and seal crew working probably just today, you said earlier off mic that they were going to wrap it up today.

Nichols: Yup, in Swink and then we are going to move on 24.5 North of the railroad tracks out toward Holbrook, and then on Monday we'll be on CC starting at the school going West as far as we can go until we run out of oil.

SECO News: Alright, so county road CC and 24.5 next on the list, so watch those roads for the chip and seal, keep that speed down.

Nichols: Drive safe and avoid a broken windshield.

SECO News: Thank you very much for your time and your service to the community.

Nichols: Thank you.
