Patriot Day Speech From Otero Sherriff Shawn Mobley

The La Junta Chamber of Commerce and the 9/11 Committee organized a Patriot Day Ceremony on September 11th, 2021, the 20th Anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. The thirty-one Coloradans who lost their lives were honored, as were local police, firefighters, and EMS personnel. As part of the ceremony Otero County Sherriff Shawn Mobley delivered a short speech to the crowd.

"Thank you first of all for being here and thank you to everybody who helped put this event together.

Today we remember. Not only do we remember the lives of those lost on 9/11, but we remember those who stepped up to serve our great nation.

A sense of pride for our nation was born from terror. On that day I remember the heroism of police officers, fire fighters, and everyday people.

I was inspired to step up again to serve my fellow Americans, and to do what I can to keep all of us safe, to defend our way of life, and to make a difference in every way that I can.

Even the smallest act of service or act of kindness are ways that we can honor those that we lost, a way for us to reclaim the spirit of unity that followed after 9/11, and to make sure that we Never Forget."
