SECO News Interview With Event Organizer Nick Ramirez

SECO News: This is Adrian Hart with your Southeast Colorado News on seconews.org

It's car show weekend in La Junta, I'm excited, there's more car shows than I can possibly attend. We've got two of them in La Junta that I'm going to catch, of course the Southeast Antique Vehicle Club, they'll be doing their thing down at the La Junta City Park, and we'll also be down at the race track at La Junta Raceway with Victory Motorsports. Allan, Nick Ramirez, and Madison, you guys have been scrambling putting together a car show and it's a lot more than just a car show, so I wanted to say what all is going to be going on Nick?

Nick: So, what we will be doing is quite a little bit different than last year's event, you know we had it at the coffee plant, so we decided, grow it.

SECO News: Bigger, better venue.

Nick: Yes, what more fitting place than the racetrack?

So now we have race car rides, they're going to be going from nine to noon or nine till one, I believe. You're going to get five laps for $25.

SECO News: Those are hang-on-tight hot laps.

Nick: Yes, yes, they'll be pushing it.

SECO News: It's not a parade lap, not at highway speeds, you'll be exceeding that.

Nick: Exactly, you'll be exceeding that. You'll be hearing some tires squealing. So, it'll be a fun time.

SECO News: Folks can hang on tight for that that'll be starting at 9 o'clock.

Nick: Yes, and then right after the race cars the car show will kick over, and we will be getting our judges going and walking through and having our door prize drawings as well.

SECO News: So, registration for the car show starts at?

Nick: Starts right at opening nine in the morning till ten to register, we'll actually be out there probably eight am to nine am for the registration. Same day registration $20. 

SECO News: Early birds welcome.

Nick: Early birds are welcome. $15 right now for early registration.

Madison: It's $15 from now up until Friday; so it changes to $20 on Saturday.

SECO News: Alright, so twenty bucks to register. But you guys I remember last year you had some pretty awesome door prizes and stuff.

Nick: We did. We're trying to get that same feel, but we're also trying to be a little more competitive to give a little more of that competitive edge that people like to have.

We're going to be having Whiskey Throttle showing up as well a little later in the afternoon starting to play.

SECO News: So we've got race car rides, we've got a live concert, a car show...and food.

Nick: We've even got food.

SECO News: Okay, Tell us about the food.

Nick: So we'll have Creekside Smokehouse, Chico's Food Truck, and we have a sweet treats truck or trailer.

SECO News: So like a dessert truck.

Nick: Out of Trinidad. They're going to be coming out of Trinidad.

SECO News: Very cool, it sounds like food, fun, it's all ages, the whole family can attend, right?

Nick: Yes.

SECO News: And $25 to get in a race car and do five laps that starts at nine o'clock and of course SECO News proud to sponsor it and we're going to be there live. Nick, Madison anything you guys want to say in closing?

Madison: The only thing is to round out the event we're going to be doing a corn hole tournament at the end of the night. So starting at 2 pm until 6 o'clock come catch some corn hole action and you can sign up to be in it. We're looking for teams still, so if you want to participate you still can.
