Obituary

Jan Carol Bolinger born November 28, 1950 in Lamar, Colorado departed this life on the 23rd of January 2019 in Houston, Texas with her brother and his wife by her side. Jan had been blessed with a productive and healthy life for many years but became ill the later half of 2018. Jan had moved to Texas to be with her brother and to obtain proper medical care.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Evelyn (Murphey) Bolinger, and by cousins, aunts, uncles, and several close friends. Jan is survived by her brother Wesley (Kimberly) Bolinger as well as their seventeen children and nine grandchildren. Her beloved Nieces and Nephews are: Wade (Nicole) Bolinger and their children, Deering Bolinger, Robert Bolinger, and his children, Barbara (Marjorie) Elwood, Julia (Oscar) Gallegos and their children, Evelyn (Sev) Bolinger, Sean (Lisa) Bolinger, Jordan Bolinger, Andrew Bolinger, Bryce Bolinger, Joseph Bolinger, Thomas Bolinger, Tyler Bolinger, Emma Bolinger, Emily Nielson, Aimee Bolinger and Holly (Robert) Townsend. She had one living aunt (Ethel Temple) and uncle (Lester Scriven) on her father's side and one aunt on her mother's side (Wilma Lingo). She also had countless cousins and other relatives.

Although Jan never married, she was blessed with family and friends who shared her life and provider her with joy and fulfillment. One of those friends closest to her was Crystal Walker who served with her in the military in Germany and shared many gospel ministering experiences.

Jan's life was filled with activities surrounding her family and her service to the community, her country and her church. She graduated in 1968 from the Lamar High School and soon left for college. She graduated with a bachelor's from the Colorado Christian University in Grand Junction and soon joined the military as an enlisted Chaplain's Assistant. She served in Germany for three years and returned to join the Colorado Army National Guard. She remained in the guard until she retired as a Captain. She worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation until she retired and then served as Postmaster in Sugar City until recently retiring again. She ran a personal business and enjoyed working on projects around her house. One of her greatest passions was attending local auctions and estate sales.

She served the military veterans of the community in many ways but particularly in the American Legion. Most recently she was the District Commander of the Legion in her area of Colorado.

Her service also extended to her work as an active church member and most recently was involved with Crossroads Church in La Junta. She contributed her time and her resources freely to help spread the gospel in every way she knew how. Many lives are better today - all over the world - because of her efforts.

Jan requested that she be cremated, and she has requested that her ashes be distributed to several locations. Her family will be honoring those wishes over the next several months. There will be no single formal service, but there will be memorials held by the family in Colorado and Texas and by the American Legion in Colorado. Those who wish to contribute in her name can do so to the charity of their choice.
