Emergency Manager, Danny Chavez presented a 5 year plan, it is a Fema and state approved mitigation plan for Emergency Hazards.

"A region wide plan opens a lot of grant funding opportunities for local and county organizations," according to Chavez.

The Otero County Commissioners approved the Emergency Hazard Mitigation Plan that follows.

Chavez further reported that the Governors office has issued a fire ban for the region. The Otero County Commissioners agreed that the ban will be maintained and enforced until there is some moisture.

Michelle Gardner requested a letter of support from the commissioners.

On a side note, Commissioner Goodwin said that Otero County had a 60% response to the census, which is high when compared to other counties. He further advocated that the more people who respond the better the funding for the region. 

Gardner reported that it's a new process this year, the re-districting process being used has not been done before.

The County Commissioners voted to ratify the signatures on a letter of support for the following grant application.

Danelle Berg from Economic Development reported that Senator Bennet had visited the area and introduced some legislation that addresses the regional community internet access.

Commissioner Goodwin discussed how increasing the speed of the area network is good, but he wonders if the "have-nots" will have access to 100 megabytes up/down speeds.

Berg further said that she thought the new legislation is a "win-win."

Goodwin told of service maps identifying the old 25-3 service areas compared to the self-reporting data that does not match the maps because the way the data is collected and used.

Berg discussed several solutions to advocating for the delivery of high speed in the region. She closed by saying that it was a good meeting.

County Administrator Amy White-Tanabe reported that budget meetings begin next week with the Department of Human Services. 

Tanabe went on to say that work flow efforts and keeping paperless information are priorities for the county.

Hostetler reported that the county is making efforts to protect crops and livestock from natural predators and nuisance animals.
