Obituary

Amelia Fernandez, 69, of La Junta passed away on October 10, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She was born on July 10, 1952 in Durango, Mexico to Miguel & Maria Luisa (Lopez) Saracho.

Amelia was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She was a proud mama, wife, friend, and grandmother. One of the greatest gifts to ever exist in our lives. Her devotion to love and care for the family came in various forms, particularly the time spent in a kitchen. Those home-cooked meals was an existence to be fancied. A meal eternally made with love. Amelia in the above-mentioned constantly shined the brightest in such precious moments.

Amelia was enthusiastic to watch her grandchildren grow, listen to their favorite music and shows, and guide them with life.

She was a comedian. Regularly keeping us with a smile on our faces or probably rolling us into a fit of laughter. Our Amelia without exception was busy planning something. Her presence itself is incredible. There was nothing she couldn't tackle.

We all will miss her every day. But, this isn't a goodbye, for love leaves a memory no one can steal.

She is survived by her children, Johnny Fernandez, Jr. and Sonia Fernandez both of La Junta; grandchildren, Esmeralda, Esparanza and Marisol. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Johnny Fernandez on Dec. 1, 2017; and her siblings.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, October 15, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Victor Raj officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ft. Lyon National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
