Las Animas Woman’s Civic Club Patriot Day Quilt Give-Away Winners

September 21, 2021

The Las Animas Woman’s Civic Club, in existence for 68 years, met for a luncheon at Kathleen Tomlin’s place on Patriot’s Day to give away their handmade quilt called, “Hopscotch.” The quilt was made by Adele McAfee and quilted by Pam Valdez.

The lucky winners were Doug and Missy Ricken, pictured with their daughter Alisa. The Civic Club also gave away the funds they had raised last year with quilt and bake sales, a tea party, selling their own cookbooks, white elephant sale, etc. They then in turn support community groups in need and provide a $500 scholarship to a senior.

Those benefitting from their efforts were Arkansas Valley Pregnancy Center at Las Animas; Arkansas Valley Hospice; Arkansas Valley Resource Center; Bent County Community Center youth; Bent County Historical Society; Las Animas Elementary School Emergency Fund; Las Animas Helping Hands, LA/Bent County Library winter reading program; Las Animas High School Post Prom; Las Animas Trofins; and VFWA Wreaths Across America.

The Club is actively recruiting new members. We work hard and have a lot of fun and camaraderie. If you are interested, please contact Donna Martenson at 456-0818 or Kathleen Tomlin at 456-2948.
