Joyce Lynetta Holmes, 81, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Wednesday, October 20th, 2021, at her residence.

Joyce was born in Florence, Texas on September 11, 1940, a daughter of the late Kathryn (Collins) and J.D.  Maxwell, Sr. She grew up and received her education in Slaton, Texas. After school, Joyce helped her mother for several years before moving to Colorado. She worked as a nutritionist at several major hospitals before retiring from National Jewish Hospital. Joyce returned to Texas and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and retired once again in 2000. She then moved to New Mexico for a few years before coming to Rocky Ford in 2019 where she resided since.

Joyce enjoyed racing cars, working on puzzles, cooking, singing and praising the Lord and watching the Broncos and Cowboys. She had a passion for doing cosmetology work and always wanted to become a cosmetologist.

Joyce had a big heart and cared for several neighborhood children that needed a place to go which she considered them family always.

Her greatest passion in life was serving the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Lubbock, Texas.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Kirstin) Hall of Rocky Ford, CO; daughter, Rigina Scott of Gastonia, NC; son, Stacy Holmes of Rocky Ford, CO; her grandchildren, Teena Hackworth, Vanity Rivera, Chazzer (Sarah) Smith, Chaddrick (Chyna) Hall, Kiandrea Dobbins, Mataya Dobbins, Rae’Ven Hall, Mackenzie Hall, Jaedyn Hall, Krysta Holmes, Bowen Holmes; 11 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Hall; and two brothers, J.D. Maxwell, Jr and Lewis Clay Maxwell.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27th at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford, CO, with Pastor Paul Farrell officiating. Cremation will follow the service. An additional Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Mt. Olive Church in Slaton, TX with inurnment to follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.
