MYSTERY AT MUSEUM SOLVED

By Kathleen Tomlin

October 25, 2021

Saturday evening, October 23rd, about 40 community members enjoyed a 4th annual presentation of “Night at the Museum.” Professor Leo Picatune got the town people all wound up playing great old-fashioned tunes on the Steinway piano, and teaching everyone about old fashioned medicine. We thank Pat Bertram for writing the fabulous mystery, “A Murder of Crows at the Gardner House Hotel.”

Mystery at the Museum Solved

It was a lot of fun for those trying to solve the mystery and those major and minor suspects throwing everyone off track. This living history event brought the Museum to life, with hidden clues among exhibits waiting to be found. With the consensus of the clues and the crowd, an arrest made at the grand finale by Sheriff Kenneth Dodson with assistance by a Military Soldier from Fort Lyon, Larry Poulson, and Selina Heron was arrested before she could escape.

Mystery at the Museum Solved

There were 15 suspects dressed in period clothes, acting out their part, and it was so wonderful to see the many youth volunteers getting involved. Lottie Gardner, who owned the Gardner House, (Kim MacDonnell, a great, great, granddaughter), was present with Circuit Judge Ewell (Mark MacDonnell), an extensive traveler.

Abigal Crow, (Olivia Banister), was a ghost looking for her husband. Bright Raven (Emilee Smith) was seeking the stolen sacred pipe of the Cheyenne, but never got to perform the cleansing ritual. Jennie Wren (Sarah Van Fleet) was a chambermaid assigned to clean the room where the crime took place, but said she was just doing her job. Nell Starling, press, (Donna Dodson), was hot on the trail of a great story and taking lots of notes. A crippled lady, Kathleen Tomlin, served as emcee, and tried to keep everyone on track. Banker (Jaxon Meardon) was a very suspicious character making everyone wonder about him. A female pharmacist, unusual in itself, (Gracie Armstrong), entertained the kids teaching them how to make various potions. Selina Heron (Lynette Wolf), a gypsy fortuneteller and self-proclaimed seer, was accusatory to some of the other suspects. Professor Picatune, (Leon Davis), was all over the place and had stayed at the Gardner House many times. Thomas Finch (Rob Moorehead), a Sherlock Holmes wannabe, was constantly detecting and stirring up trouble. Karen Kingfisher (Linda Bourne), Candy Shop lady, was much more than she seemed, always smoking her own peace pipe, and being an avid student of tribal lore.

Many thanks to all those who participated, and especially to Pat Bertram for helping us with the mystery. It was a great family night at the Museum!
