Obituary

We are greatly saddened by the passing of our loved one, Truman L. Lusk who passed away peacefully in his sleep October 26, 2021. Truman was born April 3, 1927, to Edith and Paul Lusk in Phoenix, AZ. He moved permanently to Rocky Ford, CO from Glendale, Arizona in the mid 1930’s. He graduated from high school in 1945 and married his childhood sweetheart, Emma Lou Keck in 1946 and they were together until God called her home in 2005.

Truman hoped to become an aeronautical engineer but forfeited that dream to farm with his father after WWII. He focused on creating markets for cash crops including cantaloupe, watermelon, onions, sugar beets and potatoes. He was one of the first in the Arkansas Valley to implement a hydrocooling system that would preserve the freshness and shelf life of cantaloupes. Because of this initiative he was able to ship cantaloupes as far as New Your City, NY. He was one of the first farmers to ship potatoes to Frito Lay for potato chips.

In addition to farming, selling, and processing produce, he enjoyed many hobbies such as leather tooling, photography, woodworking, charcoal pencil drawing, and stained glass. He also served his community and state by serving on several boards that included the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District, the Colorado Potato Board, Chamber of Commerce president, Rocky Ford National Bank president, School Board President, Colorado Boys Ranch Board, Quarter Back Club, Lions Club, and board chairman of the former Church of the Brethren to name a few. He loved music, a good joke and laughter. He delighted in meeting new people and keeping ties with former friends and hardly ever missed a Bronco game. He expected his children to reach for the highest goals of achievements and celebrated every college graduation as a result. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his delight and enjoyed hearing stories of each one.

Truman is survived by his wife, Judy Davidson Lusk (Colorado Springs CO), and four children, Rod (Connie) Lusk, Creede, CO; Peggy (Lowell) Adrian of Castle Pines, CO, Paula (Jeff) Miller of Fruita CO, and Pattie (Bruce) Grose of Fayetteville, AR. He will be greatly missed by all of us including his grandchildren, Aaron (Stephanie) Adrian and children (Grace and Taylor); Tara Robinson and daughter (Emma); Matt Adrian; Adam Lusk (Lynn) and children (Noah, William, Truman, Eleanor, Theodore, Edith); Lerin (Grant) Goodan; Rylee (Tim) D’Innocenzo and children (Ezekiel and Fynlee) , Alison (Don) Strain children (Tanner, Camryn); Emmy Jo (Garrett) Perkins (Hadley, Ryker, Banner); Nolan (Ellen) Grose,(Lily); extended family members Amanda (Mark) Deno and children (Alex, Tony, Aliana); Rob (Ashli) Grbac and children (Charlotte, Cooper, Granite); Philip (Kelley) Grbac and children (Hendrix, Abel); and Judy’s children Debra (Rodger) Murphy , Kelly (Larry) Miller and Jeff (Ginger) Davidson and families.

Truman was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Emma Lou (Keck) Lusk, his parents, Paul and Edith Lusk , his sister, Iona and brother-in-law Wayne Hamilton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 2nd at Community Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford, CO with Rev. Steve Culver officiating. Interment will be private in Hillcrest Cemetery, Rocky Ford, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the Rocky Ford Lions Club, Future Farmers of America ( Rocky Ford High School), Sanger De Cristo Hospice, LaJunta, CO or Colorado Boys Ranch, LaJunta, CO.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford - Ustick Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
