Obituary

Herbert Wayne Grasmick of Rocky Ford, Colorado entered into eternal rest November 19, 2021 at the Crowley County Nursing Center. Herb was born in Rocky Ford on August 20, 1942 to J Henry and Martha Geringer Grasmick and was a surprise birthday present for his mother.

More affectionately known as “Herbie” to most people growing up and “Puma, Papa or Grandpa” to the grandkids and great grandkids, Herb is survived by his loving wife Joy; son Mark (Jerrilea) Grasmick of La Junta; daughters Michele (Johnny) Yutterman of Rocky Ford, Merriann Grasmick of Rocky Ford and Crystal (Steve) Bacon of Newton, KS. Also sister Pat (Tex) Buckhaults of Green Valley, AZ; Grandchildren Garrett (Charity) Grasmick of New Braunfels, TX; Bailey (Nathan) Knapp of Rocky Ford; Drew Milenski of Rocky Ford; Sydney, Kyndal and Josie Bacon of Newton, KS. In addition great grandchildren Trinity Milenski, Kennedy and Brecken Knapp, Grayson Bacon and a host of other relatives and friends.

Herb grew up on the family farm near Ordway. He attended Numa School during the elementary years and graduated from Ordway High School in 1960. Farm work taught him to work hard and play hard. He loved and participated in all the high school sports and was a great athlete. His first love was baseball. He was offered a scholarship in baseball but eventually turned it down. After graduation from high school, he played on a semi-pro baseball team for a while and played on traveling teams as well.

One of his first jobs out of high school was working at the sugar factory. Eventually he went to work for Town Talk Bread Company. While working for Town Talk, he had the chance to take a job with Nabisco. For the next 30 years he was known as the “Cookie Monster or Cracker Man”. He traveled the whole southeast corner of Colorado and into New Mexico. During those 30 years he made of lot good friends. and made many people happy when he handed them a package of cookies or crackers.

Upon retirement from Nabisco in 1997, Herb went into partnership with son Mark where they had Valcom Trailer Sales. The trailer sales extended to jet skis, 4-wheelers, and golf carts.

Herb enjoyed many hobbies including, golf, wood working, remodeling houses and fixing up his 1951 Chevy Pickup.

He was a bit of a prankster and loved a good laugh. He was quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. His family has many stories to retell and laugh about. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Funeral Home.
