Obituary
David Jay “Dave” Reese, 74, of Sugar City passed away on November 24, 2021. He was born on September 2, 1947 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Marvin and Florence Reese.
In October of 1950 the family moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Dave grew up and graduated from Widefield HS in 1965. After high school Dave went to work for Inland Frozen Foods in Colorado Springs.
Dave met the love of his life Karen Mayhew one evening while cruising Nevada Ave in Colorado Springs. They were married in 1967. Dave started attending electrical classes in 1968, while working for his father at Reese Electric. In 1975 Dave and Karen moved their family to Sugar City, where they bought a small farm and Dave continued working as a Master electrician until his retirement in 2019. Dave was known for his honest, hard work ethic, which he passed on to his kids and grandchildren.
In the early 80’s Dave was a member of the Crowley County sheriff's reserve and was also a member of the CC school board. Dave loved hunting, attending gun shows and shooting every type of gun. One of his greatest joys was taking his son’s and grandson’s on their first antelope hunts. He taught all of them how to shoot and pluck off a prairie dog at 100+ yards. He also loved Mopar races and attending car shows with anyone who would go with him. He had an extensive collection of classic cars.
He took great pride in his kids and grandkids. No matter where they were at, they could always count on him being in the stands cheering them on, he was their biggest fan. He loved his family more than anything and always looked forward to times when they all could be together. We will all miss his jokes, laughter, words of wisdom and getting thumped with his stubby finger.
Dave is survived by his wife, Karen of 54 years; daughter, Kim (Bill) Schroeder, son Matt (Lindsay) Reese; grandchildren, Andrew (Ashley) Schroeder, Luke Schroeder, Mark (Snowy) Schroeder, Dayton, Hazyl, and Ellie Reese, great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Schroeder; mother, Florence Reese; brothers, Steve Reese and Gary Reese; sister, Tammy (Jon Heckendrof) Reese; survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, Justin David and Jay Henry Reese; father, Marvin and brother, Randy.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 3, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Ordway, Colorado.
