Obituary

Donald Bruce Wren, 82, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2021, at his Rocky Ford home. He was born on August 12, 1939, in Scott City, Kansas to Clyde Russel & Sarah Ethel (Schoonover) Wren.

Don was a faithful husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved 4 wheeling, camping, raising cattle, and attending sporting events for his grandchildren. Always above self, Don loved his community, helping friends, neighbors and even strangers with his Jack of all Trades skills, rarely asking for anything in return, yet humble to ask for help when needed. (The essence of a quiet community member and countryman).

He was raised on a farm outside of Ordway. He graduated from Crowley County High School, placing 2nd at state in the ½ mile. He was employed by Citizens Utilities shortly after high school, working as a serviceman before starting his own company, DW Heating & Air. He was a volunteer fireman in Rocky Ford for several years in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He coached youth baseball for many years taking the 1977 Santa Fe league All-stars to the state tournament with a win over an outstanding La Junta Tigers Team. In 1990, Don and Judi bought a farm south of Rocky Ford and began to pursue a passion of raising cattle and having BIG BONFIRES. Never truly retiring, he began to slow the business in 2010 to spend time with the love of his life, Judi, and the company of his friends in the “coffee club”.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith of the Rocky Ford home; children, Glonda (Pat) Becker of Faucett, MO; Dereke (Donna) Wren of Swink; Darci (Burton Rose) Wren of Scott City, KS; Lynn Geist of Boise, ID; Mark (Krystal) Geist of Colorado Springs; Nicole (James) Boone of Olney Springs; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita (Junior) Weis of Ordway; brother, Jerry (Cody) Wren of Colorado Springs; numerous close nieces’ and nephew’s also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George, Leo, Gene, Ivan, Keith and Bobby Wren; sisters, Eleanor Buehler, Edith Wells, Jesse Doyle and Joyce Hathaway.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Victorious Church with Pastor Daniel Blackwell officiating.

Online condolences may be made at www.PeacockFH.com. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
