Description: The instrumental ensemble for the fall Otero College Student and Community Choir prepares for their presentation just before the holidays last semester. Registration for courses this semester is still open. Spring semester courses start on Jan. 11.

Registration for Otero College Music Courses Still Open

LA JUNTA — Dean Rees, director of the Otero College Student and Community Choir, cordially invites singers to participate in this semester’s production of “Broadway Songs From 2000 to the present." Prerequisites: enjoying singing! Ability to read music is not necessary and rehearsal aids will be presented. Anyone in the Arkansas Valley region is welcome to participate, from high school students to retirees. Rehearsals will begin Monday, Jan. 10, onstage in the Ed Stafford Theatre in the Humanities Center at Otero College. A $20 sign-up fee helps cover the class’s costs, including the provided music. Music will include songs from Waitress, Shrek the Musical, Matilda, Ghost, Anastasia, Kinky Boots, Avenue Q, and Next to Normal.

Dr. James Lind, Lead Music Faculty at Otero College, also shared that there are opportunities for people to participate in an instrumental ensemble. Lind is offering a new Community Jazz Ensemble course that will be held on Tuesday nights from Jan. 11 through April 26. The group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ed Stafford Theatre. This group is open to instrumentalists of all ages and ability levels. There is a $20 registration fee for those wishing to take it as a non-credit course or to receive credit for the course, the fee for Colorado residents is $182.27.

The music program at Otero College is a transferable associate of arts degree. It is a traditional liberal arts education with a focus on arts and humanities, communication, or social sciences. The program is designed for students who are planning to transfer to a four-year institution.
