Arkansas Valley Swim Team Out Duals Manitou for Parent's Night

The Arkansas Valley Swim Team competed against Manitou Springs, taking the win during their last Home meet of the season on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

It was also parent’s night, where the swimmers presented their parents with carnations, and the seniors were recognized for their final season. 

This year’s seniors are Morgan Dowell from Cheraw, Dyllan Damgaard from Fowler, and Aurora Baiardi from La Junta.

The AVST is comprised of girls from area high schools including La Junta, Rocky Ford, Swink, Las Animas, Fowler, Cheraw and McClave. 

This unique arrangement allows Arkansas Valley schools to offer a school swim program to their students whereas they wouldn’t otherwise have enough people to fill an entire team.

Highlights:

  • Aurora Baiardi [AVST] took first in the 50 Freestyle, with a state qualifying time of 28:15, as well as the 100 Freestyle with a state qualifying time of 1:02:06. 

  • Aidan Cote [Manitou Springs] also had a state qualifying time of 1:05:67 in the 100 Freestyle, as well as the 100 Breaststroke with a state qualifying time of 1:28:42.  

  • Sol Tirado-Jensen [AVST] took first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:20:97.  

  • Claire Emick [AVST] took first in the 400 Freestyle with a time of 5:57:33.  

  • Relay A, consisting of Emilia Metz, Claire Emick, Madison Huffman, and Aurora Baiardi [AVST], took first in the 200 Freestyle Relay. 

  • Emilia Metz [AVST] took first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:22:72.

  • Relay A, consisting of Emilia Metz, Madison Huffman, Sol Tirado-Jensen, and Aurora Baiardi [AVST], took first in the 400 Freestyle Relay
