Obituary

“And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms.” - Maya Angelou

William “Bill” Neel passed away on March 2, 2022 in Colorado Springs.  To the sea of people who knew him and loved him, he was a great soul who lived life with a passion and approached every situation with great humor.

Bill came into this world on October 21, 1957 in Sidney, Nebraska to his parents Delbert and Idabelle Neel.  At a young age, he moved to Fowler, Colorado where he grew up alongside his older brother Jim and a group of lifelong friends.

As a young boy, Bill, or Billy as he was affectionately called, was much like he was as an adult, mischievous and full of character.  He often delighted his children, Cassie, Ashley, Rory, and Tyler, with tales of his adventures from his youth.  In his 20’s, Bill was introduced to his future wife Vickie Brown by a close friend.  From the stories that Bill told his children, it was evident that he loved her with all of his heart.  They were married in Rocky Ford, Colorado where they built their family and life together.  Bill and Vickie had four children together that he would tell you were his greatest accomplishments.

Bill spent the majority of his life working at the local grocery stores where he forged many relationships through his charismatic personality and ability to make anyone feel like they were someone.  If you saw him in the grocery store, you could guarantee that he would strike up a conversation and would inevitably tell you what each of his kids were up to.  Later in life, Bill was blessed with his greatest gift, his grandchildren:  Addison, Emily, Brianna, Noah, Aspen, and Beckett.

He was the epitome of a doting grandfather.  He loved taking them around his farm and letting them help with the animals and his oversized vegetable garden and taking them for rides in the tractor.  Throughout his life, Bill was happiest at home with his family, watching a Broncos or Rockies game on tv, barbequing no matter the weather, inside his garage building something, or outside working in the yard or garden.  There are not enough words to describe the man Bill was, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.  Because of the stories he left us with and the laughter and joy he gave us during his time on earth, peace will bloom and he will be remembered with a smile.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents Delbert Neel and Idabelle (Gross) Neel and his sister Cathy Ann Neel.  He is survived by his beloved wife Vickie (Brown) Neel and brother James “Jim” Neel.  In addition, Bill is survived by his greatest pride, his four children and sons-in-laws:  Cassie and Brad Brusuelas, Ashley and Justin Marlow, Rory Neel, and Tyler Neel.  His memory will be carried on by his six grandchildren: Addison Brusuelas, Emily Brusuelas, Brianna Brusuelas, Noah Brusuelas, Aspen Marlow, and Beckett Marlow.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday,  March 8, 2022 from 5-7pm and Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 10 am at Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home.

Arrangements are being handled by Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home of Rocky Ford, Colorado.
