Obituary

Leroy “Jim” Sandoval, 70, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2022. Jim was a beloved grandfather, father, and husband. Jim was a construction worker and correctional officer for the State of Colorado Department of Corrections.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and was lovingly known as Pa. Jim also was an active member in the community. Jim had a passion for serving his community and others, he volunteered for countless roles including city council member, mayor, school board member, and county commissioner. Jim enjoyed life in the valley, his favorite season was summer where he enjoyed picking and roasting chilies.. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors.

Jim is survived by his wife Peggy Sandoval, Children Stacy & Nick Lewis, James (Chelsea) Sandoval, and his five grandchildren: Christopher Lewis, Jace Lewis, Ryder Lewis, Jaxon Lewis, and Greyson Sandoval. The family would like to thank the staff of Fresenius Dialysis center, Penrose Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17th at Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. A Vigil Rosary Service will be held on Friday, March 18th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. In Lieu of flowers, the family would request a donation in Jim’s name to the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home.
