Obituary

Spencer Floyd Olsen of Fowler passed away on Friday, March 25th, in Pueblo, CO at the age of 79. Spencer was born in Colorado Springs to Warren and Mildred Olsen. Spencer grew up on his grandparents’ farm west of Fowler, where he attended school in Fowler and graduated in 1961. Spencer enlisted into the United States Marine Corps after graduation, received basic training and was then assigned to attend the Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, CA. He was then deployed to Vietnam where he served as a Sergeant and platoon leader. While in Vietnam he received a Purple Heart for wounds received. After serving in Vietnam, he returned stateside to the Navel Air Station in Glenview, IL where he was commissioned as a Lieutenant and was awarded the Silver Star for his military service and action in Vietnam. He then served in Okinawa for a year and returned to Detroit MI as a recruiter for 8 years. He returned to Okinawa for another year of service and then was sent to Quantico, VA Marine Base where he served as a NCO Training Officer. After 23 years of service, he retired and returned to his home town of Fowler. Spencer was an avid fisherman, hunter and played golf. He was also a member of the NRA.

Spencer is survived by his wife of 53 years: Cathy Olsen; 1 son, Curtis (Anna Johns) of Pueblo; sister Linda (Tom) Fangmann of AZ; a granddaughter Kelcie Olsen of Colorado Springs; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jimmy & Marlene West of Winfield, KS along with nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.

Graveside Services are scheduled Monday, April 4, 2022 at the Fowler Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home.
