Obituary

Cynthia K. Martinez, 62, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, after a long hard battle with cancer, which she fought with courage and bravery. Cindy was born on August 18, 1959 in Rocky Ford to Stanley and Marilyn Miller. After graduating high school, she married Ronald Martinez on August 29, 1977 in San Luis, CO. Cindy attended Otero Junior College Nursing Program, after completion she “Pinned” in 1992 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She began her career at Pioneer Nursing Home, where she was employed for 8 years and from there moved on to Crowley County Nursing Center, where she was employed for 20 years.

Cindy’s hobbies included camping, where she enjoyed many family trips to Mount Rushmore, Mesa Verde, Lake Powell and numerous trips around the beautiful Colorado mountains. She also enjoyed trips to New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. She especially enjoyed sitting by a mountain lake, looking at the beautiful and serene scenery. Cindy was also quite good at playing the piano and was also an excellent cook, she was always trying new recipes.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ronald Martinez, 2 sons: Adam Martinez and Kendal (Maria) Martinez, sister: Melanie (Joe) Pettie, sister-in-laws: Jamileh (Mark) Miller and Debra (Richard) Gobin, brother-in law Jerry Martinez, 6 grandchildren: Ariana Martinez, Lauren Martinez, Alanah Martinez, Aedan Martinez, Dylan Martinez and Adam Martinez, nieces: Tracy Maes, Tana Lopez, Kimberly Valenciano, Stephanie Maldonado, Andrea Martinez and Grace Miller, nephews: Greg Gobin and Tristan Miller. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, son Alan Martinez, nephew Donald Pettie, brother Mark Miller father and mother-in-law Joe and Alice Martinez, brother-in-law Lou Martinez and sister-in-law Linda Valenciano. With special thanks to Sangre de Cristo Hospice, Nurse Kay and friend Barbie, who took special care of Cindy on her last day at home surrounded by family and friends.
