Holly Colorado May 1st Fires Report from Chief Hazen

Fire one was dispatched out at 6:38 pm as a fire started from Lightning that was about 10 miles north of town. When responding to that fire the third truck in route spotted another fire in the bar ditch that was only 2 miles north of town. The first two tucks responded to the first fire reported while the next two trucks tried to put out the second fire. The wind was strong and both fires grew rapidly.

Fire one threatened three occupied structures. Two of the structures were not damaged while the third one lost a few out buildings and equipment. We are estimating at this time that fire one burned between 2,500 and 3,000 acres.

Fire two threatened three occupied structures also. Two of the house escaped with little to no damage and one was completely destroyed. Everyone was able to get out of all the houses and no injuries were reported. We are estimating at this time that fire two is around 600-800 acres. A pre evacuation order for the town of Holly was issued from Fire number two due to the high winds that were changing directions and the close proximity to town.

Multiple agencies along with many farmers and ranchers helped to contain both fires and move livestock that was in the path of the fires.

Both fires are currently contained.
