Idea Place Full of Local Artists and Poets for First Friday Art Show

Hosted by the Rocky Ford Chamber of Commerce and held at The Idea Place, an art and business incubator. Several local poets and story tellers presented their works to a full house.

Rob Marshall

Donna Abert introduced each speaker. Rob Marshal from the Rocky Ford Museum presented a history of Anna Luis Lindahl, who was originally of Sweden. After time in Iowa and Kansas, she met and married Mr Gobin and moved to the Rocky Ford area in 1888. Which was a time of much development and growth in Rocky Ford.

Anna Gobin

In 1907 the Gobin block was completed. She passed just before she turned 100 years old. Marshal said, "Anna Gobin was truly an amazing woman who lived a life of adventure and saw many changes in society."

Bill Butler, read some of his poems, and had a couple of his books on display. He read selections from his book.

Pieces reflected on time and those life activities that others would not deem, "physical exercise," like rolling over on the couch, and other physically exerting tasks. Butlers humor was delivered upfront in his poems, but also touched on small town Americana and the excitement and intensity of a Summer storm.

Art exhibits were also displayed from locals, like Laura Thompson. Her antique prints were neatly arranged and recalled local historical events.
