Christmas came early for many veterans and their families thanks to a CABA toys and food drop at Las Animas Airport on December 4th. CABA is the Colorado Aviation Business Association who provides Christmas gifts for veterans in need all over Colorado consisting of food and toys. This was our sixth year of participating. Six planes and nine pilots from the CABA project from Denver landed in perfect weather. Our little airport was filled with the different styles and colors of planes. We are uncertain how many pounds were sent to this area.

The food and toys were unloaded by five Post VFW members, nine Auxiliary members, and 11 community workers including Santa Claus. A meal was prepared by Auxiliary members and 34 people were served a delicious sloppy joe sandwich, with chips, salad, and dessert. The following day we had five Auxiliary members, and 4 non-members help us break down, distribute, and deliver the boxes of food and toys.

Some remaining food was donated to the local Helping Hands food bank and will target Senior Veterans when possible. Las Animas: 47 people assisted, and 15 kids were given toys; La Junta: 26 people assisted, and 14 kids were given toys; Hasty: 4 people assisted, and 2 kids; and Lamar: 10 people assisted. This was a total of 41 veterans and 46 family members for a grand total of 86 assisted.

Thank you for supporting our local veterans in need. It is greatly appreciated and growing each year. This year we were featured 0n the SECO News YouTube channel to help spread the word. We are being blessed from your generosity. God Bless our Veterans and God Bless America!
