J.W. Rawlings Museum Celebrated Seniors March 15th, 2023

The Museum honored our seniors March 15th with a free St. Patrick’s Day themed celebration! Seniors from the Senior Opportunity Center; the Bent County HealthCare System Nursing Home and Prairie View Assisted Living Center; and from all around our Bent County community enjoyed each other’s company! Las Animas has been in existence for 150 years this year, so we celebrated our Sesquicentennial with a trivia contest developed by Bob Stwalley’ s research.

The winner was Terri Torrez, with Ruth Smith and Pam Valdez tied for second place.

Mauritta Adams cooked a delicious spaghetti lunch with our partners bringing tossed salad, bread, punch, and desserts. Beautiful Irish music was provided by Janice Ramey at the piano and Lynette Wolfe at bass.

The lunch wrapped up with a costume contest with Don Herman landing first prize; Kathleen Tomlin second; and Tracey Johnston third. Sixty seniors and friends attended, and 10 lucky ones received door prizes provided by Anisita MacLeod; Val-U-Med Pharmacy; Lynette Wolfe; Karen Leck and Kristi Wauson. All guests were provided with a gift bag, courtesy of the Bent County Art Guild. We thank our partners: Bent County Art Guild; Bent County/Las Animas Public Library; Bent County Senior Opportunity Center; Bent County HealthCare Center; Prairie View Village; and Val-U-Med Pharmacy. We are, “Oh so lucky to have you!” Many seniors expressed their appreciation that we have this celebration every year. Thanks for coming!
