Otero County Commissioners meeting seconews.org The Otero County Commissioners approved their minutes from their November 2nd Meeting with a couple changes.

Danelle Berg, with economic development clarified that SECO-Strong offered the opportunity for area businesses to utilize a gift card program at no cost.

Tara Castaneda with the Arkansas Valley Hospice requested permission for the Hospice to put their veterans memorial tree in the Otero County Courthouse, the commissioners approved unanimously and commended Castaneda and the work that the Arkansas Valley Hospice does for the community. 

Otero County Commissioners meeting seconews.org Timothy Ahopelto with Hinkle & Company gave the 2019 audit presentation via zoom. He said the next audit process begins in January of 2021.

Dennis Smith delivered his third quarter trustee report. Notables that he mentioned included 67 manual releases, 118 electronic, and 2 foreclosures totalling $300, total amount earned $3,662.55, which matches the total amount spent at $3,662.55.

Foreclosures have decreased from 31 total last year to 12 this year, which has in turn increased the number of releases, according to Smith.

Smith also made note that the county tax sale has been postponed due to covid.

The Commissioners approved the third quarter Trustee's report.

The Commissioners approved their bills and payroll.

Berg with Otero County Economic Development reported that Cynthia Nieb received the main street coordinator of the year award.

Otero County Clerk Lynda Scott reported that there were only 60 more ballots that they expect to have counted by November 13th for the final count.

She reported that there were 350 in person machine votes on election day.

"I think our voter turnout was exemplary," scott said. A little over 75% submitted their vote to be counted in this year's election.

Jay Scott with American Legion Post #9 reported that Veterans Day festivities have been scaled back due to Covid. He said there will be a flag raising ceremony at the La Junta Intermediate School beginning at 10 a.m. November 11th.
