Cathy C. Otero

It is with great sadness that we announce that Catherine C. Otero, 64, of La Junta has lost her battle to cancer on December 7, 2020 at the UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital in Highlands Ranch, CO. She was born on June 27, 1956 in La Junta to Catarino & Magdalena (Mata) Barela.

She went to school in La Junta and worked at Western Foods. After working at Western Foods, Cathy was a home maker and enjoyed caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, family, friends and neighbors. Her specialty was the best traditional mexican food. She filled her time with this unforgettable cooking for her siblings, children, husband, neighbors, grandchildren & friends. She was a Mother to all. She loved and cared for every single person she ever had the pleasure of meeting. She expressed her love through food. She put her heart & soul into every dish she cooked. Most importantly, it warmed her heart to simply enjoy spending time with her loved ones and making them smile. Cathy was a true fighter. She gave strength, hope, and courage to others as she fought a very difficult and challenging battle of cancer through her last breath, until it was time for the Lord to lift her to be by His side.

She is survived by her husband, Rudy of the La Junta home; daughters, Valerie Otero and Christine Otero both of La Junta; grandchildren, Anthony & Jonavon Otero and Elijah Chavez; three sisters and two brothers; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Catarino & Magdalena Barela; son, Phillip Otero; brother, Cruz Barela.

Inurnment will be Monday, December 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
