THIS IS A RAPIDLY EVOLVING AND FLUID SITUATION.  INFORMATION AND ACTION ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME.  BE PREPARED TO BE FLEXIBLE AND PATIENT.

The situations, numbers, website links, data, and etc. described below were current as of Friday 1/15/2021 at 10:45 am.

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS WIDELY

1/15/2021 Crowley/Otero COVID-19 Update #1:  Weekly Update

Please take the time to read and understand this entire message.

Internet links:  Before I send out each update, I check the links to make sure they are active.  However, links do change from time to time, so the links I sent out today may not be the same tomorrow.  You may have to search around a bit.

Happy Friday, here are this week’s COVID-19 updates:

  1. Website Link Problem:  My updates are posted on www.oterogov.com  We have become aware of an issue with the links embedded in my updates after they are posted on the website.  The issue was that when you clicked on the links, it asked you for a password.  We have worked on the problem, and the links in the most recent updates (dated 1/8/2021 & 1/13/2021) should work properly.  I tested the links on the website for the aforementioned dates, and they worked fine.  Sorry for any confusion!
  1. Rates Continue to Drop:  I am a HUGE fan of good news, and I got some, so here it goes:  Our rates in Crowley and Otero Counties continue to drop!  Here are some specifics:
    1. Crowley County

§ Two week cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 population not including prison inmates (12/30/2020-1/12/2021):  182.36

·         This is down from the peak rate of 961.56 recorded on 12/15/2020, and it is currently approaching the upper threshold of Level Yellow, which is 175.  Good job Crowley!

    1. Otero County

§ Two week cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 population (12/30/2020-1/12/2021):  661.89

·         This is significantly down from the peak rate of 3,791.17 recorded on 12/11/2020.  Keep it up Otero!  No, no, no, wait a sec, that should be keep it down Otero.

    1. Crowley/Otero new hospitalizations 7 day moving average:  0.86

§ This is down from a peak of 2.57 recorded on 12/5/2020.

These reductions are no accident, they are not merely a by-product of chance, it is through your deliberate actions.  Your investments in complying with public health orders and guidance are reaping positive dividends.  And now it is time for yet another pop culture reference:  In the words of the famed Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn:  “Your focus determines your reality”.  This is not over yet, so let’s stay focused on prevention (https://covid19.colorado.gov/prevention ) so we can get back to a “normal” reality sooner than later.  It is up to us.

And now for the pop culture question of the day:  To whom was Qui-Gon Jinn speaking when he uttered the words quoted above?  The first to respond correctly may be ready for her/his first Jedi trial!  We’ll have to check with George Lucas first, though.

  1. Phase 1 Business/Organization Vaccination Registration:  Crowley and Otero businesses/organizations/agencies that meet current eligibility requirements for Phase 1 vaccinations (COVID-19 vaccine | Colorado COVID-19 Updates)  can now register for vaccination clinics.  These clinics will be advertised when we have sufficient vaccine available.  However, you can get your employees on the list now!  Here is the website to register: Phase 1 COVID-19 Vaccine Notification (google.com)

If your business/organization/agency is not physically present in Crowley or Otero County, please check with your Local Public Health Agency (LPHA) for COVID-19 vaccine availability.

  1. Phase 1 Age 70+ Vaccination Registration:  Crowley and Otero residents that are aged 70+ can now register for vaccination clinics.  These clinics will be advertised when we have sufficient vaccine available.  However, you can get on the list now!  Here is the website to register:  ochdvaxnow.com
  1. OCHD Current COVID-19 Vaccination Plan:  Here is the current vaccination plan for Crowley and Otero Counties for the next few weeks.  Please be aware that all of this is contingent upon vaccine availability, so it is subject to change.  OCHD is planning very carefully so that no dose remains in our refrigerator too long, but we also have to balance the limited amount of vaccine between eligible people in Phase 1A & 1B in addition to having enough vaccine for booster doses.  At this point in time, here is what the plan looks like through the month of February 2021 (subject to change):

ü  Week beginning Monday, 1/11/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B.

ü  Week beginning Monday, 1/18/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B, including booster shots.

ü  Week beginning Monday, 1/25/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B, including booster shots.

ü  Week beginning Monday, 2/1/2021:  OCHD booster shot mass vaccination clinic.  This clinic will only be for those that received their first inoculation at the Arkansas Valley Fairgrounds in Rocky Ford on 1/6/2021.  Only booster shots will be given at this clinic.  The exact date of this booster shot clinic is still to be determined.

ü  Week beginning Monday, 2/8/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B, including booster shots.

ü  Week beginning Monday, 2/15/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B, including booster shots

ü  Week beginning Monday, 2/22/2021:  Continue OCHD vaccine administration to eligible individuals in Phase 1A & 1B, including booster shots.

ü  And now, some very important points to remember:

o   ALL CLINIC ACTIVITIES LISTED ABOVE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND ARE CONTINGENT UPON AVAILABILITY OF VACCINE.

o   Mass vaccination clinics:  In order to perform mass vaccination clinics, we have to have sufficient vaccine available while still being able to ensure soon-to-be-necessary booster shots.  We will advertise mass vaccination clinics once sufficient vaccine is available.  Please stay tuned.

o   All clinic activities listed above are for Crowley/Otero counties only.  If you do not reside in Crowley or Otero County, please check with your Local Public Health Agency (LPHA) or your medical provider for COVID-19 vaccine availability.

o   Crowley and Otero residents, you can also check with your medical provider regarding vaccine availability at their office.

o   If you are going to receive a booster shot, please be sure to bring your COVID-19 vaccination card that you received during your initial vaccination.

o   OCHD is currently planning for mass vaccination clinics for Phase 2 eligible individuals.  These clinics are anticipated to begin in the spring (COVID-19 vaccine | Colorado COVID-19 Updates) so stay tuned for more information.

He is making this move in response to a 13 day downward trend in cases statewide, and a plea from counties that are suffering economically.”

o   What are the level restrictions/guidelines:  COVID-19 dial dashboard | Colorado COVID-19 Updates
