Hello to all. Please find this week’s COVID-19 updates below:
- Current COVID-19 One-Week Cumulative Incidence Dial Status
ü Crowley County: Crowley County has been back numerically in Blue Level for 8 days, good job! Let’s all work to keep it this way. The current rate is 66.31. This is the non-prison inmate one week cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 population for the time period of 2/18/2021-2/24/2021. For a one week period, the threshold between Blue Level and Yellow Level is 100.
ü Otero County: Otero County continues to remain numerically in Yellow Level with a current rate of 136.75. This is the one week cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 population for the time period of 2/18/2021-2/24/2021. For a one week period, the threshold between Blue Level and Yellow Level is 100. The case reporting for 2/25/2021 will be available this afternoon at approximately 4:30pm. If we have a total of 4 or less cases reported on 2/25/2021 then Otero County will numerically enter Blue Level again. Let’s do our part to keep our case numbers low!

- Southeast Health Group (SHG) Vaccination Assistance: This week the Otero County Health Department (OCHD) experienced a temporary nursing shortage. Never fear, though, SHG clinical staff was here! Angelique Chavez, Brianne Dickinson, & Cheyenne Markus, all registered nurses from SHG, assisted OCHD in providing booster vaccinations. A HUGE thanks to Angelique, Brianne, Cheyenne, and SHG for their assistance!
- County-Level Vaccination Data: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has a Colorado vaccination dashboard (Vaccine data | Colorado COVID-19 Updates) that now includes county-level data. This data can be accessed by going to the previously mentioned website and clicking on the link entitled “County-level Data (Beta)” on the right-hand side of the page. According to CDPHE, “The goal of the expanded data dashboard is part of the state's commitment to prioritize data transparency throughout the COVID-19 response, to inform an equitable vaccine distribution process, and ensure accountability.” I have attached the news release regarding this, please check it out.
- Crowley County Vaccination Rate: As mentioned above, CDPHE has a vaccination dashboard. On the right-hand side of this page, you will find a link entitled “County-level Data (Beta)”. This link will take you to a Colorado map that will give you county-level vaccination data. Additionally, you will see that the counties are color-coded to specific rates of doses administered per 100,000 population. Crowley County is currently categorized in the lowest rate category with a rate of 13,462, which is the Gray Level. The calculation used to derive this rate includes the inmate populations from both the state and private prisons. Another way to look at the community vaccination rate is to subtract the prison inmate population from the total Crowley County population, and use the non-inmate population in the calculation. Using this calculation, the current non-inmate community vaccination rate is 23,826 doses administered per 100,000 population.

b. Phase 1B.1 & Phase 1B.2 Vaccination Registration: Crowley and Otero residents that are eligible for Phase 1B.1 and Phase 1B.2 can register for OCHD vaccination clinics. If you are not sure if you are eligible for these phases, just look up at the preceding section. We will contact those registered on a “first registered, first served” basis as vaccine supply allows. c. Phase 1B.3 Vaccination Registration: Check out the eligibility requirements for this phase above, and if you meet them you can register now for upcoming OCHD vaccination clinics. If you had previously registered your employees on our website, you are still on the list, no need to register again. We are just changing the name to be consistent with CDPHE. Please note, per CDPHE guidance, we are currently focusing on Phase 1B.1 & 1B.2. It is anticipated that we will begin Phase 1B.3 vaccinations in early March. We will contact those registered on a “first registered, first served” basis as vaccine supply allows. However, you can get on the list now, the website is up and running. f. Vaccinations Through Medical Providers: If you have not yet received your vaccination, please check with your medical provider or local pharmacy regarding eligibility and vaccine supply. You can still check with your medical provider even if you have registered on OCHD’s website. If you have already registered on our website and you get the chance to get your initial vaccination at your medical provider, take it! Then when we contact you to schedule your vaccination, simple tell us you have already received it at your medical provider’s office and we will simply take you off of our list and contact the next person in line.
g. OCHD Vaccines: OCHD is now using both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. OCHD does not get to choose which vaccine we receive, and we have absolutely no hesitancy in using either Pfizer or Moderna. The Pfizer vaccine requires ultra-cold refrigeration, and OCHD has an appropriate ultra-cold freezer that maintains this vaccine at the proper temperature. Additionally, we have a digital temperature logger attached to it to ensure that the vaccine stays at the proper temperature. It is critically important that we use what we receive, and both of these vaccines are authorized and recommended for use.

h. Booster Shots
ü Where to go to get your booster shot: If you received your first vaccination through OCHD, we will contact you to arrange a time for your booster shot. If you received your first shot at another medical provider (i.e., your doctor’s office or pharmacy), please contact them regarding your booster shot. Regardless of where you go to get your booster shot, please be sure to bring your COVID-19 vaccination card that you received during your initial vaccination.
ü Booster Shot Timing: Here is the CDPHE information regarding the timing of booster shots: “If it isn’t possible to get the second dose on the right day, the second dose can be given early, up to 4 days before it is due. Additionally, the second dose can be given as late as 42 days (6 weeks) after the first dose. We are having some trouble contacting a few people because they are not answering their phones nor returning messages. It’s hard to believe, but we are coming up on one year in dealing with COVID-19 locally in Crowley and Otero Counties. March 10th, 2020 at approximately 5:30pm to be exact. I will elaborate more on this in a March 2021 update. Without doubt it been a long, grueling road, and the only way we are going to get to our destination (the end of the pandemic) is by continuing to work together. It is up to us.

REMOTE, (Feb. 19, 2021): Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced that as of 4 p.m. today the vaccine data dashboard includes county-level vaccine administration data in beta. The goal of the expanded data dashboard is part of the state's commitment to prioritize data transparency throughout the COVID-19 response, to inform an equitable vaccine distribution process, and ensure accountability. The new beta version of the county-level vaccine administration includes:
The public, local public health agencies, local elected officials, and the media have all requested this data. Today CDPHE is launching the dashboard in beta so that these audiences can offer feedback to make sure our data transparency is meeting their needs. The state has been able to distribute vaccines as quickly as the federal supply chain allows and is working hard to make sure a vaccine will eventually be available to everyone who wants one. Until the COVID-vaccine is widely available and community immunity is achieved-- we need everyone to keep following public health protocols to mitigate this virus: wear a mask, physically distance, avoid gatherings, stay home when you’re sick, and wash your hands.
