Foggy Summer Sunrise on the Arkansas River and Holbrook Lake

Description: Just a few moments before daybreak fog rolled off of the Arkansas River blanketing the fields in moisture for a few brief moments.

Be sure to watch for the resident deer herd South of Swink on County Rd 24.5 near the river. I watched them disappear into the fog just before this picture was taken.

The Arkansas River running full is not good for fishing or swimming, and boating is very risky. I wouldn't recommend getting in the water eventhough it certainly looks great.

Only minutes before sunrise often the coolest part of the day, here you can see the warmth of the river feeding the fog.

Holbrook Lake is just up the road and around the bend then down County Rd FF. Although Holbrook is often in poor condition, it is just a storage lake after all, it is one of my favorite places.

I expected a partially clouded sunrise over the low lake, instead I watched a fog shadowing the sunrise playout in a spectacular drama of moisture eclipsing the sun, then burning off of the prairie.
