VETERAN RESOURCE GUIDE

 About Valley-Wide’s SSG Fox SPGP

Valley-Wide Health Systems was awarded the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) in 2022. The SSG Fox SPGP enables the VA to provide resources toward community-based suicide prevention efforts to meet the needs of Veterans and their families through outreach, suicide prevention services, and connection to VA community services. The focus of the program is to improve Veteran well-being and baseline mental health status while providing social support and connection to VA and community-based resources.

SSG Fox SPGP honors Veteran Parker Gordon Fox, who joined the Army in 2014 and was a sniper instructor in the U.S. Army Infantry School at Ft. Benning, GA. Known for a life of generosity and kindness to others in need, SSG Fox died by suicide on July 21, 2020, at the age of 25.

Services provided by Valley-Wide’s SSG Fox SPGP include :

  • Connection to VA and non-VA services
  • Individual service plans
  • Referrals
  • Education
  • Outreach
  • Assistance with emergent needs

Eligibility for the SSG Fox SPGP:

  • Served in Active Military:

A discharged Veteran or active duty member that was not dishonorably discharged, or dismissed by reason of court-martial. The Veteran Outreach Coordinator will help with the determination.

  • Screening:

Mental health and well-being screening to verify some risk factors for suicide

  • At Risk:

Education

2U

Services: We are a for profit company, but are offering a free tool for veterans to use that will help them select what education benefit to apply for. After conducting interviews with veterans, we found out that many are unsure of what benefit is best for them. So, we created a tool that asks veterans questions so that it can narrow down what benefit the user should apply for. Information about these benefits isn’t presented for side by side comparison elsewhere and is very detailed, which makes it difficult to figure out at times. This resource does the work and determines what benefit each veteran is eligible for.

Vets4Warriors

Services: Vets4Warriors, housed at the Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care National Call Center, is a one-of-a-kind, 24/7 peer support network. We operate completely independent of the VA and the U.S. military. We maintain this independence so callers can feel confident that everything they share with us when we connect will always remain 100% confidential. Our program complements official government resources available to service members, veterans, family members and caregivers, but remains separate from them. This allows us to ensure that every caller always has access to every available resource to meet their needs, whatever those needs may be. And we are constantly taking steps to expand our resource network as well so that we are always able to provide access to the most comprehensive options for care that we can. We are committed to ensuring that every member of the military community in need of support always has direct and immediate access to a peer who understands what they are going through.
