Police Investigate Homicide in La Junta

(March 16, 2021—CBI—La Junta, Colorado)—The La Junta Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 12, 2022.

It’s believed several unidentified individuals entered the trailer of James Paul Martinez (DOB: 02/10/1984), La Junta, located in the 500 block of W. Sunrise Drive around 1 am on Saturday. Martinez was apparently shot at that time and later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police were called to the area on a shots fired call when they discovered Martinez; however, the suspect(s) had fled the scene.

Surveillance images captured three individuals possibly connected with the shooting, including an unidentified male in a grey and black plaid jacket and two other individuals wearing dark-colored jackets.

There is a red, four door flatbed truck with tool boxes attached to the rear of the flatbed associated to this incident. (Images Gallery Below.)

Although the investigation is on-going, this appears to be an isolated incident.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is providing investigative and crime scene assistance in this case.
