Obituary

Mary Esther Hernandez “Gramasita” peacefully entered into rest, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado. She was born to Esther and Angel Pena on December 19, 1945, in Ordway, Colorado. Mary was 76 years of age. Mary is survived by her husband, Carmen Hernandez of Ordway, Colorado, Children, Carla DeLeon, Julie (Juan) Arana, Bernadette (Robert) Gump, James Hernandez, John Hernandez, Angela (Albert Cardenas) Hernandez, Jerome (Catina) Hernandez, and Jacob Hernandez. Grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, Jeremy, Justin (Jade), Alexandra, Dominique, Oliver (Emily), Selena, Michael (Cami), Abigail, Andrew, Jose David, Taylor John (Maura), Tesla, Kalob, Brandon (Toni), Timothy, Anika, Jason (Sarah), Dillon, Noah, Kyla, Kayley, and Kalisha. Great-grandchildren, Daymien, Aaliyah, Kendan, Kooper, Kyran, and Emersyn. Siblings, John (Jesse) Pena, Patricia Pena, Gilbert Pena, Nadine Ortiz, Joseph Pena, Christopher (Chris) Pena, Evelyn (Dallas) Payne, Vivian (Henry) Lopez, Steve (Janet) Pena, and Carol Murphy. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Esther and Angel Pena, and son, Jose P. Hernandez.

Mary was known as “Gramasita” to her family and even many in the community. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite color was pink. She loved all sports especially tennis and football. Her favorite teams were the Denver Broncos and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Mary was a great cook and loved to make food for everyone. She made many baby blankets and quilts and enjoyed crocheting. Mary was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Ordway. She belonged to the Guadalupe Society of Ordway, and she was the President of the local Council of Catholic Women. Mary was steadfast in her faith, and she would encourage everyone to go to church. She also loved travelling with her husband Carmen. They took many trips by car and train. She was so much fun. Everyone that knew her loved her and will always remember her by her great sense of humor. She was very witty. Mary was a jokester and loved to laugh. Mary will be missed by all that knew her. Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.

A Visitation will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2022, followed by a 1:00 P.M Rosary and a 1:30 P.M. Funeral Mass. All services will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Ordway, Colorado. A final committal will be at the Ordway Cemetery. Father Susi will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crowley County Ambulance Service.

Family and friends are invited to wear pink and bring an item that “Gramasita” made for them.
