Bent’s Old Fort Stands Surrounded by Wildfire Damage

According to Incident Commander La Junta Fire Chief Brad Davidson regarding the Bent’s Old Fort Wildfire, he said the fire has burned an estimated 2,200 acres and is currently 25% contained.

According to Davidson, fire fighters have been on scene since Tuesday afternoon fighting this large wildfire.

He said at about 8:15 pm Tuesday evening the wind shifted direction and the fire moved towards the fort and burned across the marsh area, but the fire was stopped before damaging the area's landmark historic site.

Davidson wanted to stress to the community that Bent’s Old Fort still stands unscorched thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of many fire fighters.

Community support has been tremendous, according to Davidson any donations to the fire fighters can be made at the most convenient fire station.
