Baca County Sheriff: Kansas Offender in Custody

An update to a Facebook social media release posted this morning by Kiowa County Sheriff's Office in Colorado. (http://seconews.org/article/3379)

It appears that sometime this morning, the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a disturbance in Kiowa County on near Kiowa County Road 49. It appears that Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident but did not have enough information to complete an arrest at that time and terminated the contact.

Kiowa County Sheriff later released in a statement that after further investigation they believed that the male suspect, identified as Michael Kane, a resident of the State of Kansas, was a danger to himself and the community.

Kiowa County urged the community to stay alert and notify authorities if the individual was located. Kansas Department of Corrections in conjunction with the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kane later after their contact had been terminated.

Mr. Kane was located by the Baca County Sheriff’s Office in Baca County near Hwy 287 just north of Baca County Road Z after the issuance of the Kansas arrest warrant.

Mr. Kane resisted arrest but was subdued by Baca County deputies and Baca County Sheriff Aaron Shiplett and was ultimately taken into custody. No serious injuries were sustained during the use of force. Mr. Kane will be held at the Baca County Jail pending extradition to the State of Kansas.

Please note, although the Baca County Sheriff’s Office has made several arrests over the last few days, we want to make it known that we STILL have bunks available at the Baca County Jail.

Kiowa County Sheriff Update #2: 1853 HOURS:

Kansas Department of Corrections, in a glorious display of wisdom,  decided this afternoon, after Mr. Kane's arrest, to CANCEL their arrest and detain order.  Fortunately, Mr. Kane's actions today earned him some local charges that he has to answer for right here in Baca County. This right here folks is an example of the hurdles law enforcement is faced with each and every day.
