CSP Reports on Hwy 266 & Hwy 109 Accident 7/23/22

On July 23, 2022 The Colorado State Patrol responded to a two vehicle accident at 8:23 am at the intersection of Hwy 266 and Hwy 109.

Vehicle 1: Grey 2016 Subaru Impreza from Vermont, driven by a 24 year old male of Vermont, no passengers.

Vehicle 2: Red 2006 Chrysler minivan from La Junta, was driven by a 78 year old male of La Junta, with a 75 year old female passenger.

Narrative: 

The grey 2016 Subaru was traveling Westbound on Hwy 266 and red 2006 Chrysler minivan was travelling Southbound on Hwy 109. Vehicle one failed to yield right of way at a stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 266 and Hwy 109. Vehicle two struck vehicle one in the intersection. Vehicle two sustained frontend damage and vehicle one sustained passenger side impact damage. 

The 75 year old passenger in vehicle two sustained serious bodily injuries and was flown to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and pronounced dead at 1:40 pm on Saturday. Next of kin has been notified and the Colorado State Patrol has released her name: Linda Adkins. 

Everyone was wearing seatbelts. No alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed is being considered in the investigation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The case remains open and under investigation.
