Kit Carson Sheriff Arrest/Court Report 8/22/22

We will be posting the following information the beginning of each week. Who was arrested, when they were arrested, why they were arrested, the classification of the offense and the judge who issued the bond. 

Due to low bonds being set and arrestees returning to the street so quickly in which often times Law Enforcement or the District Attorney's Office is blamed I wanted to give some transparency and allow the public to see what is really happening in the courtroom. 

The rate at which violent offenders and repeat offenders are given a low bond or a Personal Recognizance bond has become a serious issue. One example of this is one individual who has been arrested by our agency 5 times in the last 5 months for narcotics distribution and 4 of those arrests the individual was charged with highest drug felony we can charge in Colorado. That charge carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in prison but yet this individual is still walking our very streets. 

Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
