Donald Williams

Obituary

Donald Lee Williams, son of Arthur Reed and Mable Baxter Williams, was born on September 20th, 1927. Fresh out of Rocky Ford High School, Don was recruited in the Army and was in the ASA Army Security Agency working in the Code Breakers unit, now called NSA.

He attended CU (Colorado) and graduated from NU (Nebraska) Dental College in the early 1950’s and soon after married Esther Beynon who was from Lincoln NE, and they soon moved to Rocky Ford. They had a dental practice and 2 children who now live in Reno, NV and Golden, CO.

Donald came from a long line of dentists and doctors: His sister Jane, Father Arthur and Grandfather Charles W Williams were all doctors or dentists.
Donald was in the 9th generation of pioneers coming to America dating back to 1637 who sailed from Yorkshire, England.

In college and afterwards he had a pilot’s license and flew a Cub.

He was in the Masonic order for over 60 years, and was in the Shriner’s Oriental Band. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1966 where he practiced dentistry for over 20 years, spent 3 years practicing dentistry in American Samoa, then finishing his dental career in Phoenix, AZ.

Don had been fishing for years with his father Arthur at the Hermit Lakes fishing club and in 1963 was one of early members to have a cabin, one of his favorite places. The cabin was homesteaded & built in the valley that is now Hermit Lakes Fishing Club by one of the discoverers of Mesa Verde. The area was great for fishing and later ATV riding where many trips were taken with family and friends. Donald was an avid hunter and typically got an elk every year for well over 20 years.

Donald was quite the Old West historian, especially as it related to Colorado history, Native Indians and was well versed in native birds and flowers.
Toward the end, Donald was moved to an Assisted Living facility in Golden to be near his son.

Bellwood Ford Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
