La Junta Police Weekly Call Reports 10/9-10/15, 2022

For the Week of October 9-15, 2022, La Junta Police Officers Responded to 456 calls.

October 9, 2022

At 4am officers responded to the 1000 block of Adams Ave. on a stolen vehicle call. According to the report, "the vehicle was stolen at approximately 0400 by an unknown suspect, unknown direction of travel."

At 12:32 pm officers were dispatched to Walmart located at 6 Conley Rd. on a trespassing/private property call. According to the report, "Was dispatched to walmart on a report of male party eating deli and leaving the store."

October 10, 2022

At 6:46 am officers responded to a burglary/forced entry at a residence call in the 400 block of Raton Ave. "Officers responded and took the report of a burglary. Officers don't have any suspects at this time."

At 8:01 am officers were dispatched to the intersection of 5th and Belleview Ave on the report of an accident.

October 11, 2022

At 11:34 am officers responded to a theft call at Crossroads Marketplace at 211 Colorado Ave. "Officers took a report of theft. An unknown male and female stole a donation box with a small amount of pocket change estimated at 3-5 dollars. No suspect ID as of yet."

At 3:48 pm officers were dispatched to La Junta High School located at 1817 Smithland Ave. According to the report, "Call Type: Harassment on 10/11/22 at approximately 1540, officers with the La Junta Police Department took report of a possible harassment at the La junta Junior Senior High School. This case has been shared with school staff for possible school disciplinary action. Nothing further to report at this time."

October 12, 2022

At 3:32 am officers investigated a report that a student at Tiger Trades Academy located at 1401 E. 6th St. had made a comment on social media not to attend school. Officers investigated and determined that the threat was not credible at this time.

At 8:57 am officers were dispatched to La Junta High School located at 1817 Smithland Ave. on a harassment call. Officers took a report of possible harassments at the La Junta Junior and Senior High School.

At 12:28 pm officers with the La Junta Police Department took report of an incident involving explicit photos that a student was in possession of and possibly shared with others at the La Junta Junior Senior High School.

At 8:53 pm officers dispatched to the 1100 block of Smithland Ave. on the report of an unattended death. According to the report, "Officers arrived and investigated. They did not see any signs of suspicious activity. The coroner was contacted and the male, who had numerous medical conditions, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At 9:36 pm officers responded to Loves Country Store located at 308 E 1st St. on report of a trespass and upon arrival the officers were able to identify the male party. The male party had active warrants for his arrest and was placed into custody without incident. Obstructing a Court Order. In a separate report, from the same incident, additional charges were given for being in possession of items that are a violation of protection order. 

October 13, 2022

At 8:30 am La Junta Police Officers dispatched to La Junta Junior Senior High School located at 1817 Smithland Ave. According to the report, "At approximately 0800 hours, officers were made aware of a fight that had taken place on 10/12/22 at approximately 1604 hours in the La Junta High School gym parking lot. After reviewing the security camera footage, it was determined that a student was assaulted by another student. Parents were contacted and one student received a municipal citation for disorderly conduct. Nothing further reported."

At 4:28 pm officers responded to a traffic accident at Loves Country Store located at 308 E. 1st St. in La Junta.

At 5:40 pm officers dispatched to a hit and run reported at La Junta Intermediate School located at 901 Smithland Ave. The incident continues to be under investigation.

At 5:46 pm officers responded to the Family Dollar Store located at 614 E. 1st St. "Officers took a report by phone regarding a stolen bag from the Family Dollar. The investigation is on-going."

October 14, 2022

At 10:48 am officers dispatched to Safeway located at 315 W. 2nd St. on a shoplifting report.

At 11:18 am officers responded to a hit and run/private property damage call at the Potter Underpass located at 350 E. Potter Rd. According to the report, "BNSF railway inspected the bridge and found no structural damage. It is unknown when the bridge was struck. The investigation is on-going."

At 1:12 pm officers were dispatched to Sonic Drive-In located at 1122 US Highway 50. "Officers were dispatched to Sonic Drive on a reported fight in progress with a possible weapon. After an investigation, a 20 year old male was arrested for assault and trespassing."

October 15, 2022

At 12:25 pm officers dispatched to Travel Inn of La Junta located at 110 E. 1st St. on a criminal mischief call.

At 4:14 pm officers responded to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center located at 1100 Carson Ave. on a reported assault. A 38 year-old male party was arrested for assault in the second degree on a medical provider and criminal mischief.

At 4:34 pm officers dispatched to the 1400 block of Adams Ave on a burglary report/unforce entry at a residence. According to the report, "The victim has a possible suspect and officers are awaiting evidence and a list of items taken."

At 8:50 pm officers responded to the intersection of 5th and Raton Ave. in response to a report of a fight in progress. According to the report, "Officers contacted a group of juveniles who stated they had an altercation with an adult female. One of the juveniles stated that the adult female is her aunt. Contact was made with the adult female party who stated that one of the juveniles fought her daughter after she had to tell them to get off of her property. The adult female refused to press charges as the juvenile involved is her niece."
