Otero Deputies Recognized for Outstanding Service

Otero County Sheriff Shawn Mobley recognized two Otero County deputies for their outstanding service in duty at the Otero County Commissioner's meeting Monday afternoon.

Mobley said, "I just wanted to recognize, in a public meeting, some of the excellent work that a couple of my deputies have done. Granted, all of our deputies do amazing work every day, but a couple things that stood out."

"First of all, deputy Cole Smith, so this has to do with the apprehension of a couple fugitives from the Denver Metro Area. They were targeting the elderly and scamming them. So, the 12th of this month he set up trying to locate them, wasn't able to, but he did spend some extra time going out to try to find them. However, on the 14th, on that morning, he was able to locate them, apprehend them. They were both taken into custody without incident. It was pretty widely publicized on CBS up in the Denver Metro Area, so I'm very proud of him."

"Next will be Sgt. Jose Pina, he's been with us for quite a while, in fact I remember, as he does, when he was an explorer, didn't I taze you?"

"We're really honored to have him, on our agency. So, this accommodation, the Sheriff's Accommodation is really to thank him for always being willing to step up. He has to cover courts, he's always willing to go the extra mile, does fantastic case work. He does go the extra mile every time and every day, I'm pleased to get to pick on him now, he has kind of touched my heart," Mobley said.
