La Junta Community Holds Candle Light Vigil for Ashley Paugh

Nearly 200 people attended a Friday night candle light vigil for Ashley Paugh at the La Junta City Park on November 25, 2022.

Event organizers planned prayers and speeches honoring the memory of La Junta Native, Ashley Paugh, who was lost in the Colorado Springs shooting on November 19th.

Chaplain David Hestand of the Bent County Correctional Facility opened with a prayer.

Susan Dietrich, also known as the Spacelady, read several poems in Ashley's memory. 

Revered Aaron Lockhart of First Baptist Church of Rocky Ford gave the invitation to light the candles and gave a reading of Ashley's obituary.

Chaplain David Hestand lights his candle with Master of Ceremonies, Rob James.

Hundreds of candles were lit by Ashley's loved ones.

John Starcevich gave acknowledgements to the organizers and Ashley’s friends and family.

La Junta Mayor Joe Ayala recognized the community for coming together through a time of tragedy.

Reverend MJ Romano of The First Church of La Junta delivered the closing prayer.
