La Junta Police Call Report 10/16-10/22, 2022

For the Week of October 16-22, 2022, La Junta Police Officers Responded to 411 calls.

October 16, 2022

At 1:08 AM La Junta Police Officers Responded to BJ's Sports Bar on 2nd St. for a assault - fight at bar. Charges included disturbing the public peace and disorderly conduct.

At 11:13 AM officers were dispatched to the East alley of the 400 block of San Juan Ave., for the report of graffiti. There were three different buildings, two trash cans, and a box that had been tagged. Photographs were taken. At this time no suspect(s) have been identified.

At 11:55 AM officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Colorado Ave. on the report of harassment.

At 1:00 PM Officers were dispatched to 5th and Bradish Ave. for a two motor vehicle traffic accident. Both vehicles and drivers had fled the scene. It was later determined that the accident occurred at 5th and Lewis Ave. One vehicle and driver was located. The other vehicle was identified, but the driver has not yet been identified. The incident is currently under investigation.

October 17, 2022

At 2:41 AM Officers responded to an assault - simple assault call on Reed Ln. Officers took the report of a domestic violence assault. A male was arrested and was later booked into the Otero County Jail on domestic violence charges.

Officers responded to a stray animal complaint a 8:31 AM, an ordinance violation on weeds and rubbish at 8:34 AM, and at 8:58 AM.

At 9:53 AM the La Junta Police Department received an animal cruelty report.

At 9:56 AM officers responded to US Hwy 50 and Carson Ave. on a report of a possible fire at WW Feed. & Supply.

At 10:16 AM officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Raton Ave. on a trespassing vehicle call. It was determined to be a stolen vehicle.

At 11:41 AM officers responded to an ordinance violation for rubbish and weeds in the 1000 block of Belleview Ave.

Officers received a stray animal report from the 1500 block of E 6th St. at 11:52 AM.

At 11:54 AM officers received a ordinance complaint for rubbish and weeds in the 1400 block of Raton Ave.

At 1:17 PM officers with the La Junta Police Department were made aware of a strong odor of marijuana coming from a classroom. School administration called a student to the office that was suspected of using or possessing marijuana. As the student exited the classroom it was seen that the student took a white cylinder shaped object out of their back pack and tossed it in the trashcan in the hallway. After review of security footage and a search of the trashcan the white cylinder object was found with marijuana markings and a marijuana cigarette inside. The student was issued a MIP (Minor in Possession) citation with guardian present and school administration handled the disciplinary action. 

At approximately 5:24 PM officers were dispatched to the 1200 Block of Park Ave. for the report of multiple juveniles smoking marijuana. Officers contacted four juveniles and one adult. After an investigation officers located marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia. Officers issued all five parties a summons for minor in possession/consumption of marijuana by an underage person.

At 9:41 PM officers were called to the 200 Block of Colorado Ave. on the report of a male urinating on a mailbox. Officers arrived and detained the male party. Later, the male was taken into custody on violating two protection orders. 

October 18, 2022

Officers responded to weed and rubbish complaints numerous times, at 8:23 AM, 9:20 AM, 9:46 AM, 9:58 AM, 10:40 AM, and at 2:47 PM.

At 9:34 AM officers issued citations for controlled substance - amphetamine possession during a traffic stop.

at 12:37 PM an officer was dispatched to Safeway for a minor, two motor vehicle accident, without injuries. The at fault driver was cited for unsafe backing.

At 12:57 PM an contracted K9 search at La Junta Intermediate School was conducted. Random rooms were selected by staff. No alerts were given.

At 1:41 PM La Junta officers were dispatched to the Hampton Inn on the report of a stolen license plate.

At 2:01 PM a contracted K9 search at La Junta High School was conducted. Random rooms were selected by staff. No alerts were given.

At 3:25 PM officers responded to an incident at La Junta High School. A student dislocated their knee in the hallway, other students stated they think she had been kicked in the knee. It was later found via security footage and possible victim statement that no assault occurred. 

Officers made a warrant arrest in the 1700 Block of Lincoln Ave. at 4:02 PM

At 7:04 PM officers assisted the Colorado State Patrol on a warrant arrest and a search of a vehicle.

At 8:03 PM an officer observed a vehicle driving recklessly and upon performing a traffic stop the vehicle did not stop. Officers engaged in a pursuit and the driver was located and place into custody without incident.

While conducting security checks downtown, officers noticed a vehicle parked in the 300 Block of Santa Fe Ave. in an area that is not normally occupied at night. The vehicle was unoccupied but the dome light was on and the vehicle was unlocked. Through investigation officers learned that the vehicle's plate was expired but it was bearing a fictitious year tab. The tab was removed and the vehicle was tagged as junk.

October 19, 2022

At 10:00 AM officers responded to the 1100 Block of San Juan Ave on a burglary/forced entry report.

At 1:11 PM officers dispatched to the La Junta Post Office on the report of a vehicle accident.

At approximately 2:30 PM officers were dispatched to the SEAL Academy regarding a fight. After an investigation, one juvenile male is facing charges for third degree assault.

At 1:21 PM a contracted K9 search at Tiger Trades Academy was conducted. Random rooms were selected by staff. No alerts were given.

October 20, 2022

At 7:33 AM a report of a junk vehicle located in the 1300 Block of Bradish Ave. was received by La Junta Police Officers.

Officers responded to a junk vehicle report on Circle Dr. at 8:09 AM.

The La Junta Police Department received a vehicle theft report at 8:09 AM.

La Junta officers received numerous trash and weed complaints, at 8:41 AM, 11:15 AM, 11:29 AM, 2:05 PM, and at 3:42 PM.

Officers responded to the College Overlook Apartments in the 1700 Block of Lincoln Ave. at 4:19 PM in response to a junk vehicle call.

October 21, 2022

While in pursuit of a vehicle, another party was actively attempting to join the pursuit in an attempt to either stop the vehicle or have the suspect get in their vehicle. The party had almost hit law enforcement multiple times and is also a revoked driver. Officers issued a warrant for the infraction.

La Junta Police Officers received a report from the Otero County Sheriff's Office regarding the traffic accident that occurred during a vehicle pursuit. Driver believed he was helping law enforcement by ramming the vehicle with his own to get it to stop.

At approximately 10:10 AM officers were dispatched to the 1100 Block of Garfield Ave. with EMS. A death investigation was conducted, with no suspicious circumstances found.

At approximately 2:52 PM officers were dispatched to the 6th St. Bridge on a reported fire. Officers located a 25 year-old male party and he was taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

October 22, 2022

At 7:44 PM La Junta Police Officers responded to Walmart located at 6 Conley Rd on a burglary report. Officers took a report of a male party trespassing and stealing three items from the store.

Officers took a report of damaged property and criminal mischief at El Azteca Mexican Restaurant on West 3rd St. in La Junta. There is no known suspect.
