Madrigal Singers to Perform at Gobin Building, Dec. 15, 6:30 pm. One night only!

The Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Dean Rees, will return with their dinner and a show after taking a couple of years off during the pandemic. “We are delighted to be back performing and entertaining again!” says Mr. Rees, “and to have Christine’s restaurant cater their wonderful food makes it all the better!”

The event will be presented at the Gobin Building on Thursday, December 15 starting at 6:30. Admission is $55 a plate for the gourmet food and show. The audience is given a choice of smoked prime rib or festive chicken breast with a salad, side dishes, drinks, and dessert.

Despite being named the Madrigal Singers, the music is a far cry from musty, ancient Renaissance music. After the opening Boar’s Head Carol and Wexford Carol many familiar seasonal tunes are heard such as “Frosty the Snowman," “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," “Let It Snow/Winter Wonderland Medley," and the group’s customary “Good Friends and Fireplaces." Mike Shima and Katie Lagergren will sing the haunting “Every Star Shall Sing a Carol." Dan Haddan solos on Peter, Paul, and Mary’s “Day is Done." Mike Shima tells the tale of the unofficial 1914 Christmas truce by singing John McCutcheon’s “Christmas in the Trenches.” Donna Cannon performs the heart-warming “The Five Little Fingers of God.” And JR Thompson will tickle your funny bone with “Deck the Hall with Boston Charlie," a song taken from the comic strip Pogo.

Laura Thompson will delight the audience with her inimitable reading of part of Dylan Thomas’s “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.” The whole group will perform a skit based upon James Thurber’s “The Unicorn in the Garden” as reinterpreted by Laura.

Dean Rees sincerely hopes you will join us for an evening of great food, fun and beautiful music, and community fellowship. Come and enjoy!

Additional music: Antiphonal Deck the Hall, Christmas Eve is Here, Sing We Now of Christmas, The Cherry Tree Carol, Caroling Caroling, Christ in the Stranger’s Guise, Silent Night, Hurry Shepherds Run, The Time of Snow, Mary’s Little Boy Chile, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Tickets are available at the Rocky Ford Chamber of Commerce (719-254-7483), Christine’s Restaurant (719-254-3833), and the Rocky Ford Daily Gazette (719-254-3351).

The Gobin Community Center is Located at 104 North Main St. in Rocky Ford, Colorado.
