Obituary

Larry Lopez, 60, went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2022, at his La Junta home surrounded by his family. He was born in La Junta on October 17, 1962, to Alex Sr. and Agnes Lopez.

He was a twin and the youngest of 12. The twins were born on their father’s 44th birthday which made the newspaper with a picture of the twins in their mother’s arms.

Growing up Larry was spoiled by all of his siblings, and they always looked out for him. He grew up in New Addition where he made lifelong friends. He was active in sports, his favorite sports to play were baseball and football. He and his twin brother Jerry would pitch to each other all the time.

As Larry grew into a young adult the love, he had for classic cars led to his purchase of a 1964 Chevy Impala SS at the age of 19. The 64 was his baby and one of his most prized possessions. He was always listening to good jams, and he loved the sound of a guitar- his favorite song by Carlos Santana is Europa (Earth’s Cry Heaven’s Smile). Larry was employed with Dean Foods for 20+ years. He was also a landscaper, brick layer, painter and caregiver.

He had many nieces and nephews whom he showed unconditional love to. He was known as the fun uncle, and you can talk to him or ask him for anything, and he was always there. He was a family man; a man of great faith and he carried a loving and genuine spirit. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and he enjoyed watching all sports especially playoff or championship games with his family. He was a great cook, he made the best green chili, chicken mole and chili beans.

Larry was a loving, caring and supporting husband and father. He always went above and beyond to have the best life with his family. Life without Larry is one we are unable to imagine, although the pain of missing him will always be a beautiful reminder of the best times we had loving him.

Larry will be forever remembered by his beloved wife, Dora Lopez; daughter, Krysten Lopez; grand pup, King Lopez; siblings, Connie (Sydney) Martinez, Stella Martinez, Priscilla Domenech, Alice Trujillo, Alex, Jr. (Kathy) Lopez, Carol Medina, Henry (Maria Esther) Lopez, Annabelle (Rick) Aragon, Danny (Arlene) Lopez; mother-in-law, Maria Estrada; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Trujillo and Crystal Estrada; godchildren, Amelia Domenech, Jesse Sierra, Jr., Jeremiah Lopez-Ramirez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
