Obituary

Kathleen Masias of Pueblo West, formerly of La Junta, 84, passed away on December 25th at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, CO after a short illness. She was born on February 13th, 1938 to Tony and Rose (Whatley) Jaquez in La Junta, CO. Kathy, as she was commonly known, married Eliseo Joe Masias, Jr. in Raton, New Mexico on April 23rd, 1956. Through their union of 50 years; 6 children were born.

Joe, Kathy and their children owned and operated the El Camino Inn Mexican restaurant in La Junta, CO for 40+ years. During those years of business, the family met and made many regular customers that ultimately became good friends. The Masias family served generations of families that enjoyed their food and friendship.

Hollywood film projects like "Mr. Majestyk" and "The Badlands" just to name a few, brought in actors to the restaurant like Sissy Spacek, Martin Sheen and Charles Bronson. They had customers from all over the world, including a group of Tibetan Monks who experienced Mexican food for the first time.

Kathy enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She was an artist who enjoyed painting ceramics, sewing and embroidery. Kathy loved to read and could finish a book in a day.

Kathy was known as "Grams" to her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow and spending time with them.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Jaquez, husband, baby daughter, Rose Ann and son, Gerald

Kathy is survived by her children Joe, James, and Jeff Masias and Julie (Tom) Grasmick; grandchildren, Lauren, Megan, Adam, Jacob (Bailey), Julia and Jameson Masias; Madyson, Bryson and Cayson Grasmick. Kathy had four great-grandchildren. Several extended family members also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 6th, 2023 at The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 348 S. McCulloch Blvd., Pueblo West, CO 81007.
