La Junta Police Arrest Fugitive After High Speed Chase

Description: Vigil had several outstanding warrants for his arrest to include aggravated robbery, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and parole violations. He has also been charged with Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft in the First Degree, Vehicular Eluding, and Resisting Arrest. Abney has been charged with Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft in the First Degree as well as Resisting Arrest. *The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty*

La Junta Police Arrest Fugitive After High Speed Chase

On January 31, 2023 at 6:54 AM, the La Junta Police Department took a report of a stolen vehicle. The theft had just occurred in the area of the 1600 block of Lincoln Ave in La Junta, Colorado. At about 7:08 AM, officers located the vehicle driving and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver failed to stop and officers pursued the vehicle to the area of HWY 50 and Otero County Road 24 where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers identified the suspects as 25-year-old George Vigil and 27-year-old Shelby Abney. Officers chased Vigil on foot and he was taken into custody. Later, Abney was found hiding and was taken into custody as well.

Vigil had several outstanding warrants for his arrest to include aggravated robbery, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and parole violations. He has also been charged with Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft in the First Degree, Vehicular Eluding, and Resisting Arrest.

Abney has been charged with Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft in the First Degree as well as Resisting Arrest.
