Obituary

MaryAnn Davis, 75, became an angel in Heaven on February 21, 2023, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was surrounded by her family when she took her last breath. She was born on April 20, 1947, in Pueblo, Colorado to Tony & Argie (Mastrostefano) Caporicci.

MaryAnn attended schools in Pueblo. She graduated from Central High School in 1965 and from Southern Colorado State College (now CSU-Pueblo) in 1969, where she met Ron Davis. MaryAnn and Ron were married May 30, 1970, in Pueblo, Colorado. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Adams State College in 1973.

In 1969, she began her teaching career in La Junta at Lincoln School as a special education teacher. In 1970, she began teaching first grade at East School and Old West School before she enjoyed staying at home with her three girls and substitute teaching.

When she went back to teaching at East School, she taught kindergarten for one year and then moved to first grade, her favorite grade to teach, until retiring in 2005 from La Junta Primary School. She always felt that if the world thought like a first grader, what a wonderful world it would be.

MaryAnn then taught the Colorado Preschool Program at First Impressions Learning Center for two years following retirement. She finally retired to do the best jobs ever, babysit her grandchildren for two days a week and help in their classrooms. She also loved her daily walks with friends and traveling with Ron.

MaryAnn was a proud member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish, Marion Coterie (Circle #1), Catholic Daughters of the Americas (the oldest Court in Colorado), Gloria Bells Handbell Choir, St .Patrick Dinner Auction Committee and the Parish Council. She was honored to be a member of P.E.O. Chapter W since 2005.

She volunteered countless hours at Crossroads Marketplace, AVRMC Gift Shop, Relay for Life -Arkansas Valley Survivor Team, Amigos de Casa at Casa Del Sol. MaryAnn received the La Junta Wakeup Breakfast Sunshine Award in 2009, a truly appropriate award for such a ray of sunshine.

MaryAnn was the most genuine, sweet and caring person. Her smile was infectious. Her favorite color was red. To honor her life, MaryAnn requested everyone wear red to her services.

She is survived by her husband, Ron of the La Junta home; daughters, Melissa (Michael) Perez of La Junta; Pamela (Ryan) Denahy of La Junta and Nicole (Jerry) Chronister of Aurora; grandchildren, Whitney & Gavin Denahy; Ivy & Cole Chronister; tiny dogs, Lucy, Harley Quinn, Dizzie and Chico-Buster; also survived by and loved by numerous cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; parents-in-law, Elizabeth & Doc Davis; sister-in-law, Lenore Holton; special friend & neighbor, Loretta Paolucci.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO 81050; St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Auction, 202 Lincoln Ave., La Junta, CO 81050; Rocky Mountain ALS Chapter, 10855 Dover Street Suite 500, Westminster, CO 80021 or charity of choice direct or through the funeral home.
