Obituary

The family of Mary B. Martinez of La Junta, Colorado would like to share that on February 24, 2023 at the Western Hills Health Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado, Mary transitioned life’s journey peacefully in the presence of her family.

She was born to Dora and Manuel Encinias May 1, 1928 in Villa Nueva, New Mexico.

Mary's life is celebrated by her three daughters, Gloria Edgar and spouse Randy, Stella Martinez, Patty Martinez and spouse Tim Dillinger. Mary was the proud Grandma to 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Mary was sister to Lucille Casias and beloved by nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.

Mary was 94 years young and still enjoyed every moment with her family.

Mary was born to Dora and Manuel Encinias May 1, 1928 in Villa Nueva, New Mexico. She was married to Dan Mora who she worked alongside with their entire lives together.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dora and Manuel Encinias, her husband, Dan Mora, children Danny Martinez, Grace Martinez, Jimmy Martinez, Diana Perry, Dan Mora Jr. David Mora, 3 granddaughters Ashley Mora, Yvonne Martinez, Cheyenne Powless and two brothers and a sister.

Mary’s life was one full of love and gratitude and shared kindness. Mary was the adopted grandma for so many who she embraced throughout her life. They all called her grandma. Her home was always the gathering place for family and friends. Mary was affectionately known as the “Tamale lady” by everyone who knew her. Mary loved life and lived it fully, earning another moniker “The Queen of Bingo”. She also loved the joy of anticipation that came with her love of scratch tickets.

She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her and loved her. Her life and love is forever etched on those that celebrate her now.
